Understanding Agents

Find the Right Real Estate Agent

To make your work of buying or selling property, it is important to hire an experienced real estate agent to help you. However, how can you determine which real estate agent will be right for you from the many available in the market?

Real estate agents usually advertise themselves or their firms to be the best in the market. You may come across advertisements on the internet, see yard signs, sponsored public benches and direct-mail postcards. It can be challenging to determine the right agent to choose. However, if you do some research, you can easily find an agent’s record and determine whether he/she will be right for you.

When you want to buy or sell property with the help of an agent, consider the following:
Overwhelmed by the Complexity of Experts? This May Help

Check the recent clients
Find out whether the agents you want to hire have been active in the real estate market. Ideally, you want an agent that has been actively involved in helping clients buy or sell property over the last one year. The real estate market is always changing and hence you want an agency that knows what is going on and can advise you on the things to do or watch out for to ensure you end up with a successful buy or sale.
What Do You Know About Resources

Find out which clients the agents have worked with in the past. The clients could be those that they have sold or listed property for over the last one year. You should reach out to these clients later on to find out about their experience with the agent. You should also find out from the agent which clients may not want to be contacted and those that may be pleased to be contacted for inquiries about the agent.

When you contact the past clients, find out what the asking price of the property as well as the sales price was. If you are looking for an agent to help you sell property, confirm whether the properties the potential agent you want to hire has sold in the past were similar in size, price and features to yours. Look for an agent that has specialized in the type of property you wish to sell.

Another piece of information you should find out about is how long the homes were in the market before they were sold.

Check Licensing
In every state, there is a license board that disciplines and licenses real estate agents. Find out whether the agent you want to hire is recognized by the state licensing authority. You should also find out whether there are any disciplinary actions that have been taken against the agent.

When looking for a real estate agent, consider the two things above.
